Dr. Hosea Mpogole is a Lecturer in Agricultural Economics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mathematics and Statistics and Head of Department of Research and Consultancy at the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP). Dr. Mpogole has worked with the University of Iringa where he founded and directed the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) and held various other positions including Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Administration. Also, Dr. Mpogole worked with the World Education, Inc. as M&E Advisor in various USAID/PEPFAR projects including the USAID Waache Wasome (Let Them Learn) project, DREAMS Innovation Challenge, and Pamoja Tuwalee MVC program. Moreover, Dr. Mpogole has worked at Carthage College in Wisconsin as an exchange scholar for research and teaching. His areas of interest in research include commercialization of smallholder agriculture, ICT for development (ICT4D), and rural development. His current research projects include: Commercialization of smallholder agriculture in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania; and, Impact of land consolidation for large-scale agricultural investments on commercialization of smallholder production. Also, Dr. Mpogole is collaborating with Prof. Brian Dillon from Cornell University and other researchers in a research project “Search Costs, Mobile Phones, and Agricultural Development” with a primary objective to study how a telephone directory focused on agricultural sector affects search, market access, input usage, yields, and other outcomes of men and women farmers in Tanzania.
