Dr Abdifatah Ismael Tahir is a research associate at the University of Manchester. Before joining Manchester, Dr Tahir served as a member of parliament in Somalia, where he chaired the house committee for roads, ports, airports, energy, and transport. Dr Tahir was also the deputy chair for policies and strategies at the Union for Peace and Development Party (UPD). Outside politics, Dr Tahir worked as a researcher, consultant, and development practitioner in various institutions in and beyond Somalia. Dr Tahir’s current research interests focus on urban politics and governance and their interface with land and connectivity. He also has a keen interest in regional geopolitics and its implications for development. Dr Tahir holds a PhD in Urban Geography from the University of Sussex, a master’s degree in transport planning from the University of Leeds and another master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of Cape Town.
