He has 35 years of professional experience in rural development, including 31 in plant protection(locust and vector control, pesticide management), Management and institutional development, Project editing management and evaluation, the organization of agricultural campaigns, risk and natural disasters management, rehabilitation of resilience of agro-pastoral populations, rehabilitation of refugee populations in agriculture, remote sensing, geographic information systems and management of data, training of trainers, higher education and applied research.
He has published or contributed to more than 100 publications or joint-publications, including some thirty scientific articles and books. He co-supervised several MSC and PHD students in Maghreb and Europe. He has consulted extensively for regional and international organizations. He has extensive experience working with NGOs. He has a proven ability to advocate and mobilize resources. He has obtained half dozen of national, regional and international awards. He joined the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) in May 2017, as the Director of the Sahel Institute. At the same time, he is active in the voluntary scientific international societies, where he is Executive Director of the International Orthopterist Society and elected member of complexe System Digital Campus of (UNITWIN/UNESCO. He is fluent in Arabic, French and English and understands Italian, Peulh and Wolof.
